Google Business Profile Posts

What to post, how often to post, and why consistent posting is one of the strongest signals you can send to Google.

Why Google Business Posts Matter for Ranking

Google Business Posts are short updates published directly to your profile. They appear in your listing, in Google Maps, and — crucially — they tell Google your business is active and engaged.

Activity is what Google rewards. A business that posts twice a week sends a fundamentally different signal than one that hasn't posted in six months. Posts are one of the easiest, most controllable ways to maintain consistent activity on your profile.

Posts also provide additional keyword-rich content. When someone searches for "emergency plumber in Manchester," a post mentioning emergency plumbing services in Manchester gives Google another reason to show your listing.

Types of Google Business Posts

Update Posts

General business updates, tips, behind-the-scenes content, industry news. The most versatile post type and the one you'll use most frequently. Include a clear call-to-action — 'Call now', 'Learn more', 'Book online'.

Offer Posts

Promotions, discounts, and special deals. These display with a prominent 'View offer' button and show start/end dates. Use sparingly but strategically — seasonal offers, new customer deals, limited-time promotions.

Event Posts

Upcoming events with dates and times. Open days, workshops, community events, webinars. These remain visible until the event date passes, giving them longer shelf life than standard updates.

Posting Frequency

How Often Should You Post?

Minimum: twice per week. That's the baseline we recommend and the standard we maintain for every client. Ideally, 4–5 posts per week will keep your profile consistently active.

The key principle is even distribution. Ten posts on Monday followed by silence until Friday is worse than two posts evenly spaced across the week. Google notices patterns — deliberate, steady activity is what gets rewarded.

Common Mistakes

Posting Mistakes That Hurt Your Ranking

Bulk uploading posts: Scheduling 10 posts to go out on the same day doesn't signal consistent activity. Spread them across the week.

Posting then disappearing: A burst of activity followed by weeks of silence is worse than doing nothing. Consistency is everything.

Generic content: "We're open!" every day doesn't add value. Vary your content and make every post count.

No call-to-action: Every post should tell the reader what to do next — call, book, visit, learn more.

Ignoring images: Posts with images get significantly more engagement. Always include a relevant, high-quality image.

Don't have time to post consistently? That's exactly what our management service handles — 20+ posts per month, evenly distributed, with clear CTAs and fresh imagery.
